Mace Flower is the sister spice of nutmeg
Nutmeg is the only plant that gives us both spices. (As opposed to plants like dill, which provide us with spices and herbs.) Nutmeg is the tree’s true seed, and nutmeg is what’s known as the aerosphere—the seed’s protective covering.
Nutmeg and mace are plant products. Nutmeg is the shelled, dried seed of the plant Myristica fragrans, and mace is the dried net-like protecting of the shell of the seed.
Mace is taken through mouth for diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, belly spasms and ache, and intestinal gas. It is likewise taken through mouth for treating cancer, kidney disease, growing menstrual flow; inflicting a miscarriage, and as a hallucinogen.
